The United States – Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US – SLFC) is an independent bi-national commission, established by the governments of United States and Sri Lanka to foster mutual understanding between the two countries through mutual academic and professional exchanges. The United States – Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission has been placing English Teaching Assistants in national universities in Sri Lanka as a customary practice for past few years. These English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) are young American citizens qualified in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from higher education institution in United States.
This year, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University of Sri Lanka became one of the handful universities in Sri Lanka to receive an English Teaching Assistant from the United States – Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission. Accordingly, the English Teaching Assistant Ms. Ciara Post reported to Southern Campus of KDU on 14th of March 2022 and she is assisting the academic staff of ELTU for the second language teaching of the undergraduates. Ms. Post will be in Southern Campus for next nine months and her presence would positively benefit its undergraduates, employees and the associative communities around the Campus in enhancing their English Language Skills. The United States – Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US – SLFC) has ensured that this partnership is the beginning of a long-standing mutual programme between the two institutions.
