The Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences of the Southern Campus proudly hosted its annual Student Research Symposium 2025 on 25th July 2025, at the Southern Campus Auditorium. The event was a resounding success, bringing together a vibrant academic community to celebrate the research achievements of undergraduate students.
The event was graced by the presence of the Rector of the Southern Campus, HMGE Herath RSP USP ndu psc, the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences, Dr.A.H.Lakmal, all Heads of the Departments, the ELTU Coordinator, academic staff, military officers, and administrative staff and the undergraduate students showcasing strong institutional support for student-led research.
The significance of the symposium was enhanced by the special recorded message from the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS), whose encouraging words set the tone for a day filled with intellectual exchange and academic excellence.
This year’s keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sandun Dassanayake, whose inspiring insights into the evolving role of research in national development deeply resonated with both students and the faculty.
The 12 undergraduate student presenters took the stage to share the findings of their research across diverse disciplines. The presentations were evaluated by a highly respected panel of judges: Dr. Ravihansa Chandrathilaka, Ch.QS. Gayan Fernando, Syr. HPU Fonseka
Each presentation reflected months of dedicated study, innovation, and academic consistency. After careful deliberation, the title of the Best Presenter was awarded to AKK Liyanage from the Department of Architecture, whose research and the presentation stood out for its depth, clarity, and practical relevance.
The symposium not only provided a platform for students to showcase their academic efforts but also fostered a culture of inquiry, critical thinking, and scholarly discourse within the campus community.
