The Intake 36 students from Department of Architecture of Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences, Southern Campus, KDU set up stall at ARCHITECT 2023. The annual exhibition which is the biggest event in BMICH’s calendar was organized by Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) commenced on 23rd and ended on 26th February. The students from four architecture schools in the country took part showcasing their excellent design abilities respectively in their allocated exhibition spaces amongst display panels of architects’ works and the vibrant stalls of vendors of building materials and services pertaining to the building industry.
The stall attracted substantial attention and turn out had a retro and recycling/up cycling theme, and was assembled using rusty corrugated iron and salvaged timber members/wheels/pallettes and recycled newspapers etc. While the vintage Ford Zodiac 1950s motor car placed as an essential part of the stall was a crowd-pleaser, the selective works of the KDU architecture stuents from all batches displayed inside was praised by both the visiting architects and architectural enthusiasts. By collaborating, the KDU architecture students from all batches had great fun, while learning invaluable lessons of great team work and team spirit.
Further, the architecture students from various intakes of KDU partook in the student talent show and displayed their abilities in music, dancing and compeering, adding to the flare of the event.
While Dean of FBSS Dr. Harindra Lakmal and Rector Southern Campus Major General Robin Jayasooriya were instrumental in facilitating the exercise in their capacities, the work was overseen tirelessly by the Head of Architecture Archt. Nuwan Premaratne as well as the Year Masters Archt. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nishan Rasanga Wijetunge and Archt. Anjana Nawaratne. Archt. Kasun Gayantha and Archt. Ravin Gunaratne who are senior lecturers also lent a much-needed hand by encouraging the students at work.
The KDU Architecture students will keep on exhibiting their great enriching range of talents in future ARCHITECT exhibitions to come.
