The 7th Rector’s Challenge Trophy (RCT) 2024 in KDU Southern Campus, an interfaculty football event, was held on the 11th and 12th of September at the KDU Southern Campus and organized by the undergraduates of Intake 39 from the Quantity Surveying department, this year’s tournament marked a historic milestone as it was the first time the interfaculty football tournament was included in an RCT event and the first to take place at the Southern Campus. A total of six faculties participated including the Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Management Social Sciences, and Humanities and Faculty of Technology, adding to the competitive excitement.
The grand finale, held on the 12th of September, saw an intense showdown between the Faculty of Management Social Sciences, and Humanities (FMSH) and the Faculty of Engineering (FOE). The men’s final match was thrilling, with Team FMSH winning the winner’s trophy. In addition, a special exhibition match of girls was organized between the Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences (FBESS) and the Faculty of Computing (FOC), with team FBESS securing the win.
Adding to the charm of the event, the matches on the 12th, including the girls’ match and the men’s grand finale, were held as night games, providing the audience with a unique experience under the lights. A DJ performance further elevated the evening, blending sports with entertainment for a lively atmosphere.
The Vice-Chancellor General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Rear Admiral HGU Dhammika Kumara VSV, USP, psc participated in the event, creating a prestigious aura around the festivities. The theme of the event, inspired by Harry Potter, brought a touch of magic to the campus grounds, engaging both participants and spectators alike. The two-day tournament was filled with an unforgettable feeling of competition, joy, and togetherness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
