The Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences, in collaboration with the Faculty Research Cell, hosted a momentous event that set stage for ideas and ground-breaking discoveries in the realm of sustainable built environment. The Student Research Symposium (SRS), held at the Southern Campus auditorium on 27th of July 2023, brought together brilliant young minds, esteemed academics, and distinguished guests under the theme “Exploring Creative and Innovative Building and Construction Technologies towards a Sustainable Built Environment.”

Dr. Malsha Mendis, a renowned figure affiliated to the Department of Design Studies at NSBM Green University as a Senior Lecturer, and an Associate Professor at the esteemed St. Petersburg University in Russia, captivated the audience as the keynote speaker of the event, sharing her insights into the realm of sustainable design and its critical role in shaping the future of built environment. Adding further distinction to the symposium, Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Mphil honored the occasion as the Chief Guest.

What initially began as a Student Research Forum in 2022 has now blossomed into the esteemed Student Research Symposium, a testament to the growth and dedication of the student body and academic staff alike. The launch of the Student Research Symposium (SRS) web page on the same day marked a milestone in fostering a vibrant research culture right from the undergraduate level.

The symposium served as an invaluable platform for aspiring researchers to present their thought provoking findings and innovative ideas. In recognition of outstanding contributions to research and presentation WGMD Vishwaprabha and KAL Bhagya from the Department of Spatial Sciences were awarded for the best research. In an inspiring collaboration, the event witnessed the participation of Major General LCR Jayasuriya RSP ndc psc, the Rector of the Southern Campus, Dr. A.H. Lakmal, Dean FBESS, academic staff, and undergraduates.
