The Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences successfully conducted the International Research Conference (KDU IRC) for the second consecutive time at Southern Campus. The event witnessed the participation of many esteemed academia and dignitaries representing several national universities and professional institutions.

Prof. Panos Psimoulis, an Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Nottingham, UK graced the plenary session as a virtual Chair while Prof. Chandana Jayalath, Professor in Quantity Surveying, University of Vocational Technology chaired the session. Prof. STWS Yapa, Prof. Amila Ratnayake and Prof. Jagath Munasinghe contributed in the conference with their invaluable knowledge as plenary speakers.

Throughout five technical sessions and a parallel poster session, a total number of 20 oral presentations and 19 posters were evaluated by an expert panel of judges comprising senior academia from different disciplines.

SMM Sanjunee and authros won the award for the best oral presentation for their study titled, “15 Minute City Concept for Designing Resilience Future Cities and the ‘New Normal’ of Urban Built Environment in a Post-Pandemic World”. The award for the best poster was won by WMHP Sandanayake and atuthors for “Study of Solar Radiation Variation over an Area using GNSS Observations – Spatial Reference to KDU Southern Campus”.
