 KDU VISION           Department of Industrial Quality Management


 To be a university nationally and internationally known for
 its unique ability to engage both undergraduate and graduate
 students in distinctive and interdisciplinary defence related   Recognizing the knowledge vacuum in the application of quality practices to the operations of both
 higher education that best serves the tri-services,  manufacturing and service sector organizations, as well as the need for tailored management practices
 the state sector and society at large.  in  the manufacturing and  real estate  industries in  Sri Lanka,  General Sir John  Kotelawala Defence
                University took the commendable initiative to address this gap. Consequently, the university established
 KDU MISSION    the Department of Industrial Quality Management under the Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial
                Sciences to bridge this knowledge vacuum in 2022.
 To ensure a high-quality, learner-centered educational experience
 through undergraduate, graduate, and professional programmes   With the establishment of the department, the B.Sc. (Hons) in Industrial and Service Quality Management degree
                program was introduced, with its first intake recruiting in 2023. This program is designed to equip students with
 along with high quality research across many disciplines  the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure high standards of quality and efficiency in both industrial and service-
 in the field of defence, in both residential and non-residential   oriented organizations. Graduates of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Industrial and Service Quality Management will have
 settings in the campus.  acquired an advanced education that encompasses both specialized knowledge and general intellectual and life
                skills. This comprehensive preparation enables them to pursue successful careers in quality management in both
                manufacturing and service sector organizations.


 CHAIRMAN - BOARD OF MANAGEMENT, KDU  Subsequently, the department initiated its Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Property and Investment Management
                program, with the inaugural intake commencing in 2024. This undergraduate degree program is designed to provide
 Secretary, Ministry of Defence  students with a comprehensive understanding of the real estate and investment industries. It integrates principles
 General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil  from property management, investment analysis, finance, and business management to equip graduates with
                the knowledge and skills essential for success in the dynamic fields of property and investment. Graduates of the
                B.Sc. (Hons) in Property and Investment Management will be empowered with the expertise necessary to assume
                strategic leadership roles in the property, real estate, and investment management sectors, thereby enabling them
                to secure competitive job opportunities both nationally and internationally.

                Both  degree  programs  offered  by  the  department  have  been  designed  to  align  with  Level  6  of  the  Sri  Lanka
 CHANCELLOR     Qualification Framework (SLQF-2015), each comprising 120 credits. The curriculum for each program contains
 General SHS Kottegoda (Retd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc  contemporary subject areas in industrial management techniques, thereby offering undergraduates enhanced
                opportunities for practical industrial engagement. Beyond traditional teaching and learning methodologies, both
                programs incorporate opportunities for self-directed and experiential learning. These include regular industrial
                visits with industry experts, case studies to assess students’ ability to apply knowledge, frequent guest lectures,
                and more. Ultimately, the department aims to produce graduates who are equipped with the latest knowledge,
                skills, and attitudes, capable of driving revolutionary changes in the organizations where they will be employed in
                the future.
