JOURNAL OVERVIEW

KDU-JBE is published biannually (in July and December) by the Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences (FBESS), Southern Campus, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka. It is an international open access and peer-reviewed journal platform equipped to publish high quality original research papers from the spheres of Architecture, Quantity Surveying and Surveying Sciences; within the Built Environment and Spatial Sciences discipline.

For a paper to be acceptable, it should generally be of great value and interest to researchers in the field of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences. Further, it should contribute to the advancement of the aforesaid area.

Both practical and theoretical papers are encouraged to be considered for the journal.

Factors of Consideration when structuring your paper:

  • Novelty/Originality of the topic
  • Clarity of objectives
  • Comprehensiveness of research methodology
  • Conclusions/Recommendations pertinent to set objectives
  • Quality of language and presentation
  • Knowledge generation in the area of research
  • Strict adherence to the required format (mentioned under section ‘Submissions’)

Significant deviations from this format will disqualify the paper from review.

The paper intended for publication requires to be reviewed by two specialists on the specific subject area, or ones in the general subject area. If referees manifest opposing views on acceptance of a paper for publication, it may be directed to a third referee by the Editor-in-chief upon his discretion. The final decision on publication of a particular piece is with the Editor-in-chief.

The Editor-in-chief, author(s), and specialized proof readers will be involved in proof-reading and finalizing the manuscript for inclusion in the volume. Once the volume is ready, it is published online, followed by the printed version.

JOURNAL AIM

The main objective of this journal is to propagate knowledge in the field of built environment and spatial sciences – Architecture, Quantity Serveying and Surveying – as well as research findings pertaining to the aforesaid.

As such, the aims of the journal are to:

This journal facilitates a suitable platform to publish the high quality research papers. In the long term, it strives to enhance the strength of KDU ranking nationally as well as internationally. Furthermore, the journal will provide immense support for the KDU alumnae who are planning to further their post graduate studies overseas by affording an excellent opportunity to equip them for that by publishing with KDUJBE. The Ultimate goal of this journal is to enable researchers to reach international standards and thereby, to become a new productive force for the benefit of Sri Lanka. Only such scholar material will be competent enough to benefit humanity, and shed light into the future; in an ever-changing world.

JOURNAL SCOPE

As in any other field, academic research spearheads the development of the area of built environment and spatial sciences. In this light, the potential publications should be based on either in view of past practice, current interests and also into new fields of potential. The featured work should be thought-provoking, with a clear research component. The research in question could consist of either cutting-edge technologies or theoretical/critical reviews.
