The Intake 33 Surveying Sciences undergraduates of the FBESS underwent a short course of Hydrographic Data Collection and Processing under Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service Division from 21st to 24th May 2019. Data were collected with a sea journey in P105 Hydrographic Vessel of Sri Lanka Navy and the data processing and visualization was conducted at Sri Lanka Naval Wing at National Aquatic and Research Authority (NARA) Mattakkuliya.
Intake 34 undergraduates of the Department of Spatial sciences of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University visited NARA on 24th and 25th January 2019. During the visit they had the privilege to be on board of ‘R/V Sammudrika’, the one and only Research Vessel which is employed for both hydrographic and oceanographic research.
Intake 33 and Intake 35 students of Department of Spatial Sciences visited the District Survey Office Rathnapura on 04th of October 2018 and participated for a series of academic activities. The students were thus privileged to visit the record room of the District Survey office and were able to see many valuable documents related to surveying including maps, plan and field notes.
Next day the students visited the Piduruthalagala triangulation point as another mandatory requirement of their modules.
The Faculty of Built Environment & Spatial Sciences conducted its sessions for the first time on Spatial Sciences in the 9th International Research Conference on 9th September. Many scholars presented their Research Papers in the technical session enlightening the audience with a greater intellectuality. Out of all the technical sessions, the scholar K.A Dinusha attached to the Department of Spatial Sciences was awarded for the best research paper.
